Painting Lulu with Chicky

Today we are bringing you a really neat, new concept with the Paper-to-Digital Colouring Pack from Painting Lulu. I’m thrilled to be able to feature Chicky in a review again. It’s been so long that, the last time she was in one, she was modelling diapers and not in the least bit impressed. If you’re cloth diapering, or you just want to see a cute baby, you can check out the Glow Bug review here and a Piddly Winx one here.

Anyway! We received their My Little Pony kit free, in exchange for this review, and both of my girls have been making use of the 32 colouring pages included.

Paper to Digital Colouring Pack

Photo from Painting Lulu

What’s incredibly cool about the Painting Lulu colouring book is that your little ones can make a picture on the paper, then transfer it to Apple, Android or Amazon devices and continue their artwork via digital medium. This comes in handy if you’re heading out the car and want to avoid a melted crayon fiasco. Believe me, it’s rough and it happens. Last year my kiddoes took one SMALL package of crayons in our van, while on the trip up north, and I ended up with a backseat absolutely full of colourful streaks that were completely impossible to remove. Here I was thinking I was such an ingenious Mama, coming up with cute backseat fun kits that would keep them occupied during our 5 hour drive, and I inadvertently ruined the upholstery in our vehicle. Thankfully, I no longer have to worry about that (and we have since purchased a new van- yay for Honda and my man Nelson!).

As soon as I received the Painting Lulu colouring book in the mail, I had to hide it away, up high, so that they couldn’t tear it open. It was an instant hit because what girl doesn’t like My Little Pony and what kid doesn’t want to colour? For at least five minutes before they try to take the crayon to the wall anyway- I know what’s up, I’ve got boys too.

Here’s a great video to show you what it’s all about.

 Chicky was SO excited to get started. For her, she loves the pictures of all of her favourite characters and she thinks the “squishy” crayon is the best. She’s actually carried it around since using it the first time, in order to keep it away from her big sister.

As a Mum, I like the quick share options and the idea that I can upload their artwork to Facebook, in order to put it in their online scrapbooks. I can also easily share it with family and friends that may not otherwise get to see her art, just in case anyone wants an original Chicky piece on their fridge. Gramma can take some of our overstock, no doubt.

If you want to try before you buy, check out the Painting Lulu website and find their free sample page by clicking this link. If you know now that your children, or the littles in your life, will love this as much as mine do, scoop it on Amazon below. Easy Peasy Patches- Review and How To

I started working with Easy Peasy Patches because a no sew fabric patch is fun, no matter what age you are. I figured that I would like using the item, while adding a bit of flair to my children’s clothing or accessories. I didn’t realize, however, how addicting the patching would become. There are just so many uses for no sew sticky patches and so many places that they look cute!

Disclaimer; This post is sponsored by Easy Peasy Patches. All opinions are, of course, my own and I was given the product in exchange for an unbiased review

I was sent 6 different no sew patches as part of my Easy Peasy review kit, which included 3 for a boy and 3 for a girl. Upon first inspection, they’re durable, come in appealing, bright colours and have a similar thickness to a denim (with a sticker back).
The usage explanation is pretty simple, really; You peel and stick. That’s it. As a busy Mama of four, I really enjoy having a quick, no-sew option for patching a torn knee, covering a stain on an expensive item that’s still got too much life to toss or just sprucing up a dull piece. They’re machine washable, no sewing is involved and you don’t have to iron anything- yet they’re not going to come off in the wash. You can throw them in the machine or, according to the website, even the dishwasher and they’re not going to peel or fray.

These are supposed to be a permanent patch and I can see why but I actually discovered that, if very careful, you can peel them off of one item and stick them on another. Once restuck, they stay in place just as well as they did upon original usage.

EasyPeasyPatches

We had put “Filbert”, as my son named the little red monster face, onto Thing 1’s old backpack and had to switch him over when we got a new one. My son’s thrilled with his Easy Peasy patches and he’s already asked me for a friend for Filbert, to stick on his lunchbag. He’s reached the age where doing quirky, strange things is what’s “cool” and he thinks forcing friends to say hello to Filbert when they address him is just a riot. Kids. Heh.
If I could fill his entire bag with Filbert’s, I think Thing 1 would be thrilled.

For me though, it really comes down to price in the end. An awesome embellishment is all well and good but, if it’s going to break the bank, I may be able to do without. These, however, are incredibly affordable and you can find their craft kits on sale now for less than $12 via this link! The craft kit features five different patches, three bottles of paint in different colors, fabric glue and 100 different sequins.  You can’t go wrong and, if you’re interested, Jo Ann Fabrics or Wal Mart.com would be the place to check for the Easy Peasy line- their pricing is far more reasonable than what I pay for standard patches elsewhere, yet these are so much easier to use. Check out the video below to see how quick and easy they are to use.

Parenting Win; Pure and Natural Bubble Bath

DISCLAIMER; I received this product at no charge in exchange for an unbiased review. This post contains affiliate links which, if a purchase is made using those links, assist in supporting my bloggie endeavors and my family. Much appreciated!

My children, like all others, love bubbles. However, being the worrisome Mama that I am, I’ve removed nearly everything that suds from our household in an attempt to go a more natural, organic route. I felt bad about it though because, not going to lie, I would sneak a bubble bath once in a while and bask in my chemical soup. I didn’t want to throw out all of our old products and giving away opened bottles of bathroom products just didn’t seem right to me- or at least that’s my excuse anyway.
Everyone loves a fun, relaxing bubble bath though and my little ladies had actually requested bubbles previously, having seen them on TreeHouse or something along those lines (probably that damn Caillou) so I had been on the hunt for a safer alternative for them.

When given the opportunity to check out Bubble Therapy Pure & Natural Bubble Bath, 3 in 1 (it doubles as a shampoo and body wash, as well as the natural bubble bath), I jumped at the chance and I’ve got a lot of pictures to help demonstrate how much fun was had as a result.

“Ah, for real? The Mum paparazzi is here…”

“We’ll work it”

I loved being able to provide them with a fantastic, sudsy, super foaming bubble bath but still stick to our chosen approach to products with an all natural and organic option. It’s also free of sulfates, parabens, harsh detergents and a slew of other ingredients that are unwelcome in our household.

Always a comedienne, always a charmer.

I was surprised by how thick the product is, similar in consistency to honey, and it doesn’t take much of it to fill a tub. It had a pleasant scent, more citrusy (to me, anyway) than anything and I didn’t find it to linger on the girls’ skin for very long, which is what I want out of a natural product. It’s great for those with sensitive skin, like my hubby and his eczema, or little ones with delicate skin too. I actually liked the inclusion of oat in there, as it’s a natural remedy we like to use often in our household for skin flare ups. Calendula and chamomile, both included in this natural bubble bath, also help with that.

You can find the Sweetsation Therapy 3 in 1 Bubble Therapy Pure and Natural Bubble Bath by following this link or you can order on Amazon via the link below (which helps out yours truly and costs you nothing extra to do so) .

As you can see by the abundance of photos, the girls had a blast and this is definitely a product that I recommend, endorse and plan to buy in the future. I was very happy with this find!
If you want to check out Sweetsation’s Facebook page, found here, you can keep tabs on all of their discounts, promotions and giveaways.

Hope you have as much fun with this natural bubble bath as we did!

Not the best picture but I’ll include it at the end, as Chicky’s face is priceless!

Bike Lights for Riding At Night

My son, who just turned 10, is now wanting a bit of independence and to be able to do things that his younger siblings can not. One of those things includes staying up a bit later and going on evening bike rides with his Dad.

(DISCLAIMER; I received this product in exchange for an honest review. This post contains affiliate links. If you use them to purchase this product, you’re supporting my blog and family. Much appreciated!)

During those late night rides, I worry about safety even when they stay well-away from any sort of traffic. I like him visible and one of the greatest, most fun ways that I’ve found to help out with that are these super bright bike lights for his rims.

DSCF8928

The company sends out a few different colours in every package, which include blue, green or multi coloured lights. My oldest prefers green but it worked out well because my youngest, as well as my husband, received rim lights too. We simply attached them to the valves on their tires, with an easy two-minute install. They work via motion activation, when the wheel turns. For the pricing, you can’t really go wrong when they last for 50 000 hours, are waterproof and usable in any terrain.

Taking them out for a spin on their very first night, we did end up discovering that a couple of the lights appeared to be duds. If you order them and receive any like that, don’t worry- just stick an extra battery in them and they’ll work without issues! My husband figured out that some work better with 4 batteries instead of the 3, which come with the bike lights.

rim lights

I purposely dressed my son in darker clothing for this review, wanting to capture the rim lights without any distraction; As you can see though, he’s still very visible in the dark. Coupled with all of our usual safety measures, I’m confident knowing that Dad will easily be able to see him on the trail at night- and so will others, which is definitely important.
If you are interested in getting your own pair of bike lights, all My Domestic Dish readers can use the code 50WHEELL (with two Ls, although let me know if it doesn’t work please) for 50% off of your order!

Sunscreen- For Skiing or Swimming

It’s winter time now and, when I say “winter time”, I mean that you can’t see the ground where I live. Ever. For around 3 months straight. During these months, product reviews give me something to pass my time while cooped up- this one came as a result of a free product and it may contain affiliate links.

snow-20928_1280

I live in Canada so it’s snowing like a mofo outside but I at least get to bust out all kinds of boots. Short ones, high ones and super clunky crappola footwear for when the snow has reached a FML depth that vertically challenged individuals, like myself, have trouble slugging through.

photo-1416838375725-e834a83f62b7

I don’t often don the big, proper winter boots because I choose to boycott the season by passionately displaying displeasure through coffee drinking and blanketed couch snuggling.

coffee-505190_1280

That being said, once in a while I’m required to leave my cave home in order to attend pre-planned appointments, such as the recent eye test that I went to. Thankfully, my eye sight is fine (which I expected) but I found out that I have very little pigment left in the back of my eye. This explains why they’re already becoming lighter before I have even hit 30. I used to have deep blue eyes, which changed to a lighter blue in my younger years, then blue-green in my teens and they have turned a pale, light green this past six months. I figured it was genetic, as my grandmother’s, mother’s and uncles’ eyes have lightened up in their latter years but it turns out that we may all be losing pigment sooner than an average person. The solution? Protect what little pigment I have left by way of polarized, super sexy Versace sunglasses through my insurance company! Woot woot! I have to wear them every single time I’m in the sunlight because the sun is pigment’s enemy.
As a super pale person of British heritage, it’s not like the sun and I were great buddies to begin with.

Year round, I like to protect my skin from its rays and to make sure my wee ones have similar protection while outside. Sunscreen is necessary year round, even though it’s not commonly thought of during this chilly season. Did you know that the sun is actually closer to the earth during the winter while, at the same time, the ozone layer is actually at its thinnest? It’s true! The National Science Foundation Polar Programs UV Monitoring Network will tell you as much- so we’re actually at an increased risk for UV exposure, especially if you’re a winter sports enthusiast. According to skincancer.org, anyone hitting the slopes may want to remember; “Higher altitude means increased risk of sun-induced skin damage, since UV radiation exposure increases 4 to 5 percent with every 1,000 feet above sea level. At an altitude of 9,000 to 10,000 feet, UV radiation may be 35 to 45 percent more intense than at sea level. In addition, snow reflects up to 80 percent of the UV light from the sun, meaning that you are often hit by the same rays twice. This only increases the risk for damage.”

When heading out skiing or beaching, the above pictured is a new favourite for our skincare. The Sun ‘N’ Fun description reads that this;

  • Chemical free, non toxic, not greasy, no white cast, EWG Rating 1.
  • Natural with Organic ingredients, Zinc 20%
  • Contains fresh and inviting (natural) scent of marshmallow & chocolate, that kids love
  • Can be used by kids and adults alike
  • moisturizing with antioxidants

suncreen sun protection

The 1 rating means that this sunscreen has the lowest hazard rating possible, and when 75% of sunscreens and 90% of SPF moisturizers tested in the Environmental Working Group’s “2013 Guide to Safer Sunscreens” were found unsafe or ineffective, that’s a major plus. We typically use my homemade sunscreen for that reason but this one does appear to contain a fairly comprehensive ingredient list. It also includes the antioxidant tocopherol (from soy), which enhances sun damage protection.

When they say that it smells of marshmallow and chocolate, it smells EXACTLY like that and Peanut loved it. My husband loathes sunscreen and hates wearing it but he readily agreed to wear this one whenever asked as a result of the scent. He said, “I would be a walking dessert” and then many suggestive comments, full of innuendo followed. Men. Heh.

However, it is pretty chilly and curling up with him sounds fairly fantastic right about now so I will leave you to contemplate lying on a beach while I go and cuddle up in our bed. ‘Til next time.

Hasbro Game Night- Lots of Family Fun!

We received this version of Monopoly Junior from Hasbro, through Influenster, free for review. Just like the game, I’m going to keep things short and sweet for you.

Hasbro Game Night
My oldest, Thing 1, is going to help out here and has opted to take the creative stance with his modelling. I blame his father for the weird-o parts, of course, and he got his cute nose from me.
I have to say, the new Monopoly Junior is far less time-consuming and isn’t nearly as frustrating as standard Monopoly. With that one, I WILL CUT PEOPLE! This one, however, is quick, easy to win and easy to lose…meaning Mama isn’t stuck at a board game for 3+ hours, sweating the bills and attempting to work around mortgage demands. I do that enough in real life!
I think the dollar values are easy to manage for younger children (there are only one dollar bills included with this) and the pieces are simple to keep track of. For anyone above 7 or so, I do believe that the typical variety in Monopoly funds is beneficial and helps to improve math skills but this simplifies everything quite a bit. Sometimes it’s less about the learning aspect and more about fun, right?
The one main downfall, for me, is that the new plastic pieces don’t have the same weight, hand feel and appeal that the old ones do. They look more like toys and my youngest daughter wanted to put the kitty in with her Littlest Pet Shop animals. I do wish there was some pizzazz to the pieces that paid homage to their beloved, classic origins. The dog has been my go-to Hasbro totem since I was a little girl and this is what my pretty poochie looks like now;

Hasbro Game Night
This version is truly one that you can break out for a bit of family fun time without having to watch the clock, become stressed out and the children aren’t playing for so long that they tire of it. All in all, I think Hasbro has come out with another great game that will be enjoyed in our home for years to come.
It’ll never top Scrabble though 😉

Be Clean Naturally Review

How to naturally clean is with Be Clean Naturally, of course!

A few weeks back, I was thrilled to receive a large assortment of little goodies from this company, based in Squamish B.C. (for those who have no idea what the heck I’m talking about and figure I’m speaking of a vegetable or a Bigfoot, it’s a place on the Western side of Canada) and have spent the past little while trying out their products. Of all of the soap reviews that I have done in past sudsy posts, I have to say that the scent coming from the Be Clean Naturally packages was most definitely the strongest in a very pleasant way. It smelled similar to laundry and lavender as soon as I opened the parcel, which was fantastic for me because it provided a scent that I have been missing after switching to natural products but it was still accomplished without synthetics. I was immediately impressed.

Upon first impression, their site BeCleanNaturally.ca is very easy to navigate, beautifully designed and includes cute, little family touches on the pages with brief introductions from Kirstin, her husband and their children. It’s on the About Us page that we find out how the company began and I thought this quote from the founder was endearing;
I’m Kirstin, the founder of Be Clean Naturally Soap Products. I started making soap because my beloved Shone is allergic to EVERYTHING! I thought that a way to a man’s heart was through his stomach, but it turns out in this case that it’s through his skin, with a little jasmine.”
Be Clean Naturally began as a labour of love and it shows within their products which, speaking of, check this one out;

Be-Clean-Naturally
I think they’re quite pretty and this is, as the stamp would suggest, called “Love” which has added lavender oils, Himalayan crystal salt and flowers to the base- that’s what you see embedded in the top of the bar. This bar was my favourite of the lot, looks-wise, as I enjoyed the addition of colour and the stamp made for a lovely decoration. As far as the scent goes, it’s exceptionally subtle and dies down in the bar as time passes. I found that it seemed to have no discernible scent whatsoever after a few days, which worked well for me because I could get my husband to use it without claiming that I was trying to hand him “girl soap”.

After he grew to love a previous hand soap that I reviewed, he was quick to pounce on this bitty bottle;

Be-Clean-Naturally
I have to admit, I didn’t fall for this one as a hand soap. I think it may be the olive oil blend for the base because I prefer that for body use, which you may love just fine. It was a similar consistency to a dish soap, in my opinion, and a bit more runny than what would normally be found in the bathroom. It was not at all unpleasant to use but a pump is most definitely a more desirable vessel, which they carry if you go with a larger size, as then I wouldn’t have to worry about using too much at once.
My hubby enjoyed it, saying that “It smells like I just ate a candycane!” and following that by looking as if he wanted to eat one. Anything that reminds that man of food is great in his books because, unlike Kirstin’s hubby, the way to Bear’s heart is definitely via his stomach. I also detected an herbaceous note to it, which ups the peppermint to another level and it makes for a mouth-watering experience, so I was not at all surprised by his commentary.
I think that I would love this one as a shampoo, more than for hand use.
Speaking of shampoo, this bar below can double as that as well as a regular body soap;
Be-Clean-Naturally

What a segue, eh?! It actually can though- be used on hair, as well as hands, face and body. When I first received the soaps, I was not as fond of the scent of this one simply because it was so subtle while dry but it definitely comes alive when used. I had such a pleasurable experience with the menthol and eucalyptus, without feeling as if I was inhaling a vaporub, and breathing in the aroma of the lather left me feeling like I was showering outdoors in dewy freshness- without the criminal charges for exposure, that is. This bar is rejuvenating and refreshing in a way that standard soaps can not compare to and I had the most pleasant experience with this one where body lather was concerned. My skin felt awakened by the menthol, as well as smooth and nourished due to the saponified oils.

On the topic of menthol, or minty, additions to the household, this is the Be Clean Naturally Tranquil Room & Linen Spray and it smells a lot like peppermint;

Be-Clean-Naturally

I had been trying to find an organic, or natural, air freshener for ages and this one’s quite fresh. The soothing smell does dissipate fairly quickly and that is to be expected because the fragrance is natural. Things like Scentsy, or Glade, are filled with chemicals and they smell fantastic but will probably kill us at some point. It sucks, as the trade off is one that can cause some contemplation for myself (ah, hell, who cares if I die early if I can have it smell like Cinnabon in here?!) until I look at the babies and would prefer to refrain from using synthetics in the household. This provides the same type of pleasant, perfumed pick-me-up and allows me to run around in the same harried manner, spraying each room of the house for added freshness,  prior to company arriving. You do it too, I know it.
With this natural room spray, I would recommend using it when the little ones aren’t in the immediate area, as it could probably cause some eye irritation if little faces are looking up into the falling mist. The other spray options that Be Clean Naturally offers probably wouldn’t but I would suggest a better-safe-than-sorry approach to anything with peppermint, as it’s a very strong essential oil.
This blend of lavender, rosemary and peppermint is great for things like improving an agitated mood, or helping with insomnia. I went through nearly the entire bottle before I thought, “Duh, pain relief!”, as all of those ingredients provide relief for headaches, inflammation or pain, and I started using it as an absolutely fantastic muscle spray. It works just as well as A5-35 and I know what’s in it!

If you have other injuries and ailments to soothe, this is the wound balm;

Be-Clean-Naturally
Be-Clean-Naturally
Now, I have had no real reason to use this as part of first aid care since receiving it (knock on wood that I don’t, as my home is full of accident prone klutzes) so I can only speculate about the healing properties based upon the ingredients. You can do that kind of research just as well as I can and check out the page about this stuff here. I use some on the ingredients list for almost everything imaginable and firmly believe in the healing properties of essential oils; As such, I do think that a balm comprised of the best of the best of them would work well. It smells, to me, like beeswax and calendula, which is fantastic for rashes and other skin irritations. Texturally, it is a lot like beeswax but then goes on with a buttery-smooth layer that makes for an excellent barrier cream. I would go so far as to use this on baby bums, although diaper rash has not been a problem with our youngest two and I thank cloth for that!
Moving from soothing baby bums to washing bitty booties and bodies, this is the Baby Bar;
Be-Clean-Naturally
Would you like to know the ingredients? Of course you would, as a responsible parent! Olive oil. That’s it, that’s all. No dyes, scents, chemicals, parabens, sulfates and so on- just pure, natural, olive oil. It leaves skin soft (as if it wasn’t already), clean and moisturized with a rich and pleasing lather. Due to the composition of the soap, you really have to avoid leaving it in the water for too long and be sure to store it properly in between washes or it will become slightly more gooey and soft than other bars might. It is about half the size of the other soaps and not much cheaper, which does not make the most sense for our household budget. In all honesty, the rest of the bars do not contain anything that is not “baby safe” (although I would avoid mint for children and do not use tea tree oil on babies under 6 months) and I used the Love and Tea Tree bar on the girls too.
Be-Clean-Naturally
This was my favourite of all of ones that I tried due to the fragrance and the fantastic array of uses. Be Clean Naturally makes soap bars that can be used on the hair as well the body so this is GREAT for school-aged children as shampoo. Tea tree oil helps deter lice naturally, which has been pretty much my worst fear since my oldest started school, and has been added to our daily regiment. This tea tree oil soap makes for a quick, easy way to add the oil odour to my little ones’ hair without it being overpowering and it’s also an excellent solution for skin blemishes or acne. If you don’t have children to worry about, you could use it on the poochy to prevent fleas.

This, all around, is an excellent soap for value, skin, scent and suds. I most definitely recommend it.

Last but not least is the laundry soap;
Be-Clean-Naturally
Mhmm, lemony.
It smells a lot like lemons and a bit like tea tree oil so, of course, I had to quote and then impersonate Homer upon opening the bottle. I did not find that it was sudsy, which most natural laundry soaps are not, and was unsure about how clean our clothes would be until I opened the washing machine and could smell a lingering freshness. That set the soap apart from any natural product I have used to date, as there is typically no fragrance after a wash but this was noticeable, although light. Admittedly, the bottle was so little that I could only do one large load and do not have much experience with this but, at $2 for the small bottle, it’s worth trying on your own if it is something that you think you may like. I can not speak for stain fighting power, terrible grime or anything like that but it smells pretty decent and appears to do the job.
All in all, I had an excellent experience with Be Clean Naturally and enjoy the idea of supporting this family and their labour of love. I would have to pick the Tea Tree bar as my preferred of the lot, although so many on the webpage are incredibly intriguing for me and I would have a hard time choosing only a couple that I would love to bring home. The diverse line of products that Be Clean Naturally carries offers something for everyone and, if you’re wanting to do a bit of shopping but have a hubby who monitors the budget, bribe him with some Chubby Rubby if he keeps quiet about your purchasing decision. If he’s not confused enough by the offer to open up the webpage then I would be shocked. If he’s anything like mine, he would be immediately on board at the mention of the product name alone- aaand grinning like an idiot every time you looked at him for the rest of the evening.
Now you’ll have to head over to the site to read up on Chubby Rubby and see what the heck I mean by that. While you’re at it, be sure to stop by their Facebook page too.

Intelligent Nutrients, Not Just for Geniuses.

Hey you! Glad to see you on the page and here’s what I have to show you today, my find of the season;

This is the Intelligent Nutrients Bug Repellent Perfume Spray, which I was sent to review,  and I was absolutely thrilled with this product for a variety of reasons.
I have been hunting around for an organic bug repellent for ages and had either very little luck with effectiveness or an oily, stinky and poor experience. My homemade mosquito repellent, admittedly, did not work nearly as well and was not as strongly-scented as this one either. The Intelligent Nutrients one smells like peppermint and cloves, as far as I am concerned, and my hubby thinks it smells “like an herb garden”. It’s not offensive, like many commercial products, and is gender neutral in aroma- always an important thing for two, little boys who believe smelling the least bit floral is the equivalent to being put in a dress.

What is important for me though, and a pleasant surprise, is that it works to help ward off ticks, gnats, flies, aunts and mosquitoes! We took it up north to Muskoka, where the bugs were so bad that going outside meant you were putting yourself up as feast for dozens of mosquitoes at once, and I used it every day. This picture was taken about five seconds after spraying it on and, as you can see, there’s no oily film or absorption issues and I found it left my skin quite soft. The sensation is pleasantly cooling and I believe that is due to the peppermint.

We were also provided with the handy, little pocket-appropriate bug serum;
https://www.intelligentnutrients.ca/shop/certified-organic-bug-repellent-serum
Both products smell exactly alike, only the serum is more oily and I found it was perfect for massaging on our youngest child. She loved the snuggly bonding time and it was a great moisturizer, on top of being an effective mosquito repellent.

My husband, like most any normal human being, hates bugs and thought that our OFF Family Care would be more effective due to the Deet content and the reputation. The boys, wanting to be like their father, opted to wear the same spray until we compared bug bites at the end of the night and the boys ended up with a lot more than the girls. The Deep Woods version is the only one that compared but I was not pleased with the boys using the less harsh Family formula, let alone that, and the only one who wore it was my husband.
The spray was my top choice of the two but I really liked the oily serum for in a diffuser, which I use on my front porch now. I can genuinely say that Intelligent Nutrients makes the best natural mosquito repellent that I have used to date and highly recommend the product!

I was also sent their Harmonic shampoo and conditioner combo and, although I do not normally review sample size items, I decided to take these away with me as well. They are the perfect travel sized bottles;

Much like the bug spray, there is an herbaceous undertone to the shampoo and the peppermint is prevalent, as well as cooling on the scalp. I love hair care products that include mint and have become somewhat addicted to the sensation- It’s so refreshing! My only complaint about this product is the packaging- the bottles are very stiff and it leads to the whole harsh shake, wiggle and squeeze to try and get the shampoo out. It would be fantastic if they were in soft tubes, or if the shampoo and conditioner came out easier.

I found the scent to be slightly more masculine, in my opinion, and loved the smell of it in my husband’s thick, beautiful hair after he showered. The conditioner is moisturizing but not overly greasy and rinses very cleanly away. All in all, I had a pleasant experience with this where scent and sensation were concerned.

Last, but not least, is the certified organic sanitizer;

It is always difficult to find a sanitizing product that is free of parabens, sulfates, silicones, harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances but this one contains none of those while still remaining 99% effective at killing germs. I found this to dry incredibly quickly and it was initially very pungent where the alcohol scent was concerned, then it quickly died down to smell a bit like vanilla and pumpkin. My husband said that the scent reminded him of Trix cereal, for some reason. He’s a strange man. What I liked most about this product was the fact that it came as a spray, not a runny liquid that you can squirt into your palm, and is therefore more difficult for children to use. I like the idea that my toddler will not get into this as easily as she could a bottle of the gel, although I would never leave her unattended around something like this anyways. An extra precaution, however, is always a bonus. I also like the spray for toting around in a purse, as it is less likely to leak and comes with the additional cap to put on top. Very handy.

Intelligent Nutrients was a company that I had not previously heard of and, upon discovering that they carry such a wide variety of Certified Organic health and beauty products, I am so very pleased to have come across them. If you want to find out more information for yourself, please check out their website here and stay tuned for a future review of their Renewal Complex Eye Gel this month!

Baby Spa USA- Natural Baby Care Products for Precious People.

I received a lovely package, courtesy of Baby Spa, for review a little bit ago but have had such a rough couple of months that I put off this post until I had some wonderful news to add along with it. Well, that time has come and I can finally publish this review and you will learn my fantastic news if you just stick it out a bit longer. Here is what arrived in the mail for the cutiepie in my life;

All Baby Spa products are 95-100% natural and the complete line is free of parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, SLS and PEGS, which leaves room for improvement but also makes the products a hell of a lot better than what you find in nearly every store. I appreciate the company’s transparency and how the entire list of ingredients is available on the Baby Spa site, found here. This is truly a range of baby care products for health conscious parents and there are a ton of goodies available on the site that would suit a wide variety of needs. I was surprised to learn of the variety of natural oils used in their product line. I’m not a big fan of sunscreens, which are typically full of harmful chemicals, but I did appreciate discovering that some of the oils used by the company contribute to SPF and UV protection- always a plus.

One of their offerings, full of oily goodness, is this calming massage oil;

I did not find it to be heavily scented, or smelling too much of anything at all, and that was a big selling point for me. I am all about the “baby smell” and don’t want to mess that up with tons of stinky lotions so this one was great. It is also 100% natural, which is definitely desirable when it comes to applying things to baby skin. An infant massage is known to help strengthen the bond between parent and child, as well as nurture the skin-to-skin relationship and relieve stress hormones for the wee one. For some great techniques, check out Youtube for some excellent tutorials.
Next up were the wipes. These are super thick, plush, hypoallergenic (don’t even get me started on Huggies Naturalcare, which made Charlii break out so badly that I wanted to hunt down the creator in a Mama-rage), 100% natural and biodegradable. Yay! If diaper rash is an issue, the organic aloe and calendula is nourishing and soothing for an added bonus. They are pillowy soft and scented witih chamomile, which is calming and a nice addition to pamper little baby bums.

Last, but not least, is the “cologne”. This is for nurseries, to get rid of stinky diaper smell in a Genie or for use on the wee one. I thought the reasoning for the product was very interesting and I’m going to quote Laura, from Baby Spa USA, here because she worded things beautifully;
“Researchers have found there to be a tight connection between smell, emotion and memory. Evidence indicates that odor evoked memories are more vivid and emotional than those induced by other sensory cues….This gentle and lasting scent allows parents to create a safe, familiar environment for their child, triggering a flood of positive emotions that will endure over time.”
It’s 95% natural, smells like heaven in a bottle and looks like this;

It’s got that fresh, baby powder-like scent that I find a newborn’s sleeper will smell like once they’ve worn it for a while. It’s the same smell that mother’s will put their faces to a tiny outfit to inhale and it’s amazing that it could be captured so perfectly as a spray. I think the idea of a baby cologne is just adorable and perfect for a new little man in the family, which brings me to my good news;

We had a baby!!!
Well, my husband and I did not make this little munchkin…or not so little, as he was 8.65lbs at birth…but my sister did! My little sis gave me a new nephew on September 17th and I could not be more thrilled. Ryder will be sporting the Baby Spa cologne and getting the most use out of these fantastic products, as he needs some serious spoiling and could probably do with a rub down with the Calming Massage Oil after the awful ordeal of being born. As you can see, he’s pretty pooched as well as completely adorable. The handsome man holding him is my own son, Ryder’s oldest cousin, Ben (or Thing 1, to the regular readers).

I am confident enough in the Baby Spa line up to recommend their products to my little sister, for use on this precious prince, and encourage you to check out their site here or like them on Facebook.
Now to get back to the snuggles…

Glow Bug Cloth Diaper- Bitty Booty Coverage

I recently had the privilege of trying out Glow Bug’s updated cloth diaper for review, courtesy of the company, and I have to say that the improved design made a significant difference for me.
Here is my mosquito-bitten, little “Chicky” in her Glow Bug cloth diaper;
As you can see, she looks adorable- and the diaper isn’t half bad either! Having two tiny ladies in the house, I can never get enough of the beautiful patterns, colours and character prints that Glow Bug offers because they launch a new collection yearly. However, as I will teach my daughters; Appearances matter less than what is on the inside.
And here is what counts for me;

Now, although it is not exactly new, I had not previously known about the 360° gusset because it was a design change put in the year after my oldest daughter was born. Being a cloth user, I rarely need to replace my diapers (huzzah!) and was basically living under a frugal rock when it came to what was new on the market. Great for my purse strings, not so awesome for convenience because I used to deal with leaks. It happens. It also happens with disposables, only landfills and baby skin also deal with the repercussions of soiled diapers in that case. (Did you know that it can take 500 years for a disposable diaper to decompose?! Google it!) Since peaking out from my hidey hole, I have come across some really fantastic changes to the cloth diaper scene and this gusset is one of them. All mess is contained within the little enclosure and it makes clean up far easier.
Glow Bug offers what you call a “pocket” version, with microfibre inserts, and they are one of the cheapest cloth diapers that you can purchase. This does not mean that you suffer where quality is concerned, as they go above and beyond many competitors with waterproof flaps in the front and back to help prevent leaks, on top of the gusset and the snap in inserts-so things stay put.

What else do you need to know, do you wonder?

The above pictured, little puppies are the many, snaps on it and this sizing capability means that your baby uses the same diaper from birth through to 35 pounds. Translation = even more money saved.
Chicky and Peanut, for example, can both wear this and there is nearly a year and a half age difference between them. Of course, Peanut’s potty-trained and has been for quite a while now so that worry is not on my list. If it was, however, that fact would be awesome!
There, I managed to pin my rolly-polly lady for a second and get a picture of her laying down.

She gave me quite a struggle getting this diaper on, as she’s fiesty today and wanting to dance to 102.1 the Edge right now. That is the soundtrack for our afternoon and Mama’s interrupting her busting a move for these pictures! As you can see, the fit is quite nice, even if she prevented me from doing things exactly how I like them done by wiggling and kicking out, like a frantic frog that is air-swimming.

The below picture gives you a side view of her big, cushioned bum;

Now, this was poofed out a bit more than they typically sit on her because Chicky shoved it down a bit. Like I said, she is a bit high-strung today due to her need to dance…and nobody puts baby in a corner!

As you can see, she is dancing up a storm and quite pleased in her Glow Bug cloth diaper. I most definitely recommend them for the beautiful craftsmanship, the fun patterns, the handy gusset and the money-saving size options. If you are interested in putting your own little wiggle wart in one, you can contact the company here.
